Murdoch MacKay Rugby Team Triumphs in Final

On June 3rd, the Murdoch MacKay Collegiate Varsity Boys 7s triumphed in an exciting final against St. John’s High School. This is a huge success for them, as they’re newer to the sport and have been growing the team and developing their skills over the past couple of years.

Coach Michael Chan has built the team from the ground up along with his former coach Brendan Kowal, who still works in the division at Wayoata School. It was an enormous challenge for the two, because the pandemic dealt a blow to the number of players signing up for lesser-known sports.

At the first practice, they knew they had something special—a group of young players willing to not only work hard but work hard for each other. In their very first season, they went 8-1-1 (wins, losses, ties), finishing first in the Varsity Boys 7s competitive division. And now they’ve repeated that success! Congratulations on the win; it's wonderful to see your hard work rewarded.
